Kantha Bopha Treats Over Half Million Children A Year
Founder of the largest children hospital in Cambodia announced that since its inception 24 years ago, the hospital has treated 14 million children with total budget expenses of $600 million.
Dr. Beat Richner, founder and head of Kantha Bopha Foundation, was
quoted in the Facebook page of Samdech Bun Rany Hun Sen, Head of
Cambodian Red Cross, posted on Jan.31 as saying that the hospital
currently had 2,500 staff working in such fields of general surgery,
heart surgery and neurosurgery with Switzerland standard.
Over the past 24 years, the hospital has treated 14 million Cambodian
children, of whom 80% have successfully recovered. Without chances to
come to Kantha Bopha, those children would not be that lucky, Dr.
Richner was quoted as saying.
According to a report by the hospital Director, around 140 children
with critical ailments have been admitted to Kantha Bopha every single
day. All the treatment is free. For 24 years, the Kantha Bopha
Foundation has spent $563 million, in which 4.7% come from Cambodian
Royal Government, Cambodian Red Cross, and other donors, and another
8.9% is contributed by Switzerland’s government.
